I’ve done something I’m absolutely terrified by. I have signed up to one of the toughest 10k races of the race season and I don’t know if I am fit enough. It’s all in aid of Cancer Research though so it’s for an amazing cause and even if I have to walk it rather than run I am determined to finish. I will have my other half by my side encouraging and motivating me and he makes me feel invincible at times. With a deadline of 3 weeks it’s time for some serious training runs and praying that my back stays upright and in one piece. I am sure with a mixture of running, yoga, foam rolling and epsom salt baths I can get there though.

So what have I signed up to? And why should you?

GET TOUGH ON CANCER WITH NEW 10K CHALLENGE

Residents of the Peak District and surrounding are being urged to get tough on cancer by signing up for an exciting new event from Cancer Research UK.

Bakewell has been chosen to host one of Cancer Research UK’s Tough 10 events, a 10k trail run with challenging muddy slopes, thigh burning hills and tough terrain.

Cancer Research UK is daring men and women across the city to take on the challenge and sign up for the event.

Runners will be pitting themselves against some of the UK’s toughest terrain to raise money for life-saving research. Each event in the Tough 10 series is marked tough, tougher or toughest based on the level of difficulty of each course.

The Peak District route is ranked toughest so it’s a feat not for the faint-hearted or tough/tougher so it’s suitable for regular runners or first timers looking for a challenge.

Tough10 promises fierce inclines and stunning views to take your breath away. Every muddy slope conquered brings us a step closer to beating all cancers.”

Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. But more supporters, more funds and more research is needed to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
